Excessiveness....

To have little is to possess. To have plenty is to be perplexed. Lao-tzu

As I walked outside this morning (...did someone mention humidity?!), I couldn't help but notice some piles of discarded items awaiting the garbage men's arrival. I guess that some of my neighbors did an early Fall cleaning; sifting through and clearing out some of their unneccesary belongings.

Admittedly, I sometimes have a problem with 'excess'...and getting rid of things.

So, today, I confess a few of my excesses:

1) Bread. One quick check of my freezer and you will see many, many loaves of bread in there. Dave is incessantly teasing me about this. It seems that many times when I am grocery shopping, picking up a fresh loaf of bread is habitual for me...or, maybe instead of whole wheat I might want to get some pumpernickel rye....or raisin bread...One never knows when the need for bread will arise!

2) Toilet paper. I blame this excess on Sam's and Costco. For some reason, it is comforting for me to see my bathroom cabinet filled with a multitude of rolls of toilet paper (great fodder for a therapist, I'm sure). As my supply gets a little low, I head back to one of the wholesale stores and replenish immediately.

3) Magazines. As much as I love receiving magazines, I never seem to have the time to finish reading them. Thus, I have many piles of half read (or never-read) magazines. By the time that I read my weekly delivered People magazines, the gossip is already disproved!

4) Pantry food. Happiness is a fully stocked pantry (this must have roots in my childhood!).....rice, cereals, canned goods (last count I had 5 cans of black beans!), pastas, baking goods, popcorn (this could be a separate category!), peanut butters (crunchy, creamy, low fat, low sugar), oils....etc etc.

5) Medical and cosmetic supplies. I have enough Q-tips to clean the ears of all of America!

6) Mail. I open my mail every day and immediately dispose of the envelopes and unneccesary items.....BUT, there are many things that arrive that I don't want to part with. For these, I have the 'catch-all' basket on my desk. Also included in the basket are things that I have printed out from the computer and may need at some later time. Every few months I go through these items, throw away a few....but safely place the bulk of them back into my basket. I may need to go and purchase a larger basket soon.

7) Photos. I surround myself with a plethora of photos around my home. Every room is filled with an abundance of framed photos sitting on tables or counters. Wandering around my house, family and friends are always nearby as their images smile back to me.

I could go on and on....but, I need to end for now and head out to do some errands....I hear that they are having a 'buy one, get one free' sale on pita bread at Publix.

Good blog! I like Publix! We do not have them around here, but always go with my brother when I visit him in South Carolina. I gotta question. I was born eatin beans and I have seen black beans at the grocery store, but could you tell me what are they good for or what do they taste like or why does just the name turn me off? I am serious for a change. I wonder that every Friday when I am still hoping to find my fav canned bean, Bush's crowder peas. Our chain carries all of BUSH BEANS cept for crowder peas, quit carrying them after I got hooked on them. I always see the black beans so since you are stocked, can you tell me about them. Thanks friend.
God Bless!
