Great Expectations

"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." E.M. Forster As I await Buddha's arrival filled with anticipation and excitement, I think that I learned a good grammie-to-be lesson today.

I have been thinking so much about all of the 'duties' and 'chores' that I will have once Buddha is born and I make my way to Minnesota....(you know, making sure that their house stays clean, doing the grocery shopping, cooking, helping with whatever else I am needed for.....) that I may have temporarily lost sight of the truly, incredible emotional experience that is ahead for all of us.

While talking with the kids today, Adam said something that has really stuck with me concerning Buddha's birth. He said that they both wanted those first days of Buddha's arrival to be a time of total "celebration". He is right....And,of course it will be...especially since this will be the first grandchild to be born in both of the families.

If their house gets a little dusty and beds go unmade....if we end up eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a week....whatever.....The important thing to remember here is that this is the time for a joyous celebration of Life...the start of a new generation.....

So, as my family is growing and expanding (sorry, Jenny, no pun intended!) I need to always remember the celebration. All of the other things are just minor details.
