"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Martin Luther King

Instead of my usual posting, today I feel the need to write about a very serious situation occurring in our world right now.

I am talking about what is going on in Darfur, Sudan.

While I have been actively keeping up with this tragic state of affairs on my own, I feel that my blog may be a good way to extend this concern to others and, hopefully, help spread the word.

Here are just a few facts:

"The Darfur region is roughly the size of Texas and had a pre-conflict population of approximately 6 million people."

It has been called the "worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century".

Since February 2003, this "...ongoing devastation has killed an estimated 400,000 and displaced over 2.5 million Sudanese...and the latest UN estimates say that between 10 and 15 thousand people are dying every month."

The current situation is that there is "...government sponsored terror, the destruction of towns, food and water supplies,...millions of innocent people are still threatened, at risk of starvation, rape and murder, and that countless children are in danger...physically as well as psychologically".

"Last summer the Bush administration declared Darfur to be a genocide."

If you are interested in learning more background information on this devastating situation, please go to:

SaveDarfur.org "Background" And, finally, if you feel so moved, you can add your name to this petition urging President Bush and the UN Secretary-General to take immediate steps to stop this senseless killing at:

While I attempt to keep my blog light and joyful most of the time, I just couldn't, in good conscience, blog today without mentioning this sad situation and making my voice heard.

I hope that you understand and feel the same way.

I certainly do understand Grammie and so glad you brought it to my attention. I just went and signed the petition to President Bush. I have to admit I had not heard of this, but will certainly read up on it. Thank you so much for bringing to my attention, as I know others will feel the same if that are not aware of this.
Bless you for concerning yourself with this and taking it to heart enough to try and do something to help.
Thanks friend. Take care.
