While I haven't read the book, I did peruse an article summarizing some of the points that he writes about.
In hoping to add life to our years, Dr. Gupta suggests several key points...a few of which I have listed here:
1) Eat only until you are 80% full.
(I'm not sure how you actually know that?!)2) Incorporate upper body training into your routine.
(Like lifting the fork to our mouth?)3) Challenge your body every day.
(Every day is a challenge, believe me!)And, one that really caught my eye as I quote the author:
4) "Eat seven different-colored foods every day--yes, red wine and dark chocolate count."
So, I decided to keep track of the different colors of food that I ate during the day yesterday to see how well I did. For the most part a large percentage of my food choices were of the white or beige-ish tone...like the egg white omelet for breakfast or chicken that I had for dinner. I'm not sure that the author counted those as a colors? But, I did eat a few colors here and there during the day. Here are my results:
Orange (orange juice)(carrots)
Green (pistachio nuts)(string beans)
Red (roasted bell peppers)
Yellow (chicken noodle soup)
Looking over my list, I realize that it would have been more fun had I eaten a big bag of multi-colored M & M's and washed them down with some bright red wine!
Now, that's the way to get that color quota in!
How many colors do you eat in a day?

I hope tropical flavored gummy lifesavors count!
Hi Grammie,
This reminds me of my Mother's cooking, she always insisted on having many different colors of food at each meal. Our plates looked like the rainbow. I remember once someone served rice with cauliflower and she frowned....haha
We always had a garden, so we had usually no less than seven vegetables with each meal. I grew up on vege's. Meat was expensive and we were poor.....
I think these are all good points to follow, especially the only eat to 80%. I agree it is a bit hard to know when you are at 80%. But I know if I eat until I am full, in 20 mins. I am overfull......what I have to do is, fill my plate, and then put back about half.........I am a habitual overeater.
White, grey, red, green! I love mayonnaise on my Subway tuna sandwich, on which I pile lettuce and tomato. White is also good for the bread.
For dessert, a traditional banana split. I'm a gastronomic rainbow!
Well... lessee. Blue and Tan breakfast (blueberry's in oatmeal), tan (coffee). Usually eat something brown during the day - or tan depending on if its straight chocolate, or something in a cookie. Dinner is usually rainbow colored - like orange, red, green, yellow, red, tan, dark brown (salad-carrot, 3 color of bell pepper, lettuce, celery, nuts and flax seeds) oh and red from the balsamic vinegar dressing and tan/dark brown for the grilled chicken. Might just have a salad though, that's a favorite meal. If we make Mac and Cheese (no NOT boxed--yucky!), then it's another rainbow because of 3 different colors of pasta, 4-5 colors of cheeses, plus green yellow red and black vegies (bell peppers, broccholi and olives) We eat a lot of different colored foods, it's good for your appetite to look at pretty food, makes you enjoy it more than if it were all the color of cream-of-wheat.. blah...
Hoping you're well Grammie and enjoying beautiful warm and tornado free weather!!
