As the crowd gathers and the press begins to record his every word he states the following:
"I have decided to make this a clean, honest campaign. I want to make it very clear exactly what I stand for and what I plan to do if I am fortunate enough to be elected. I will express this information clearly and concisely at this press conference.
Any questions that you might have at a later date can be asked to me directly on the special phone line that I have set up, by email, written correspondence, or a personal appointment. I will be accessible to listen to your concerns.
Instead of trying to degrade my opponent, I have decided to have confidence in your ability to learn all of the facts and make up your mind on our past actions and future visions. I will not stoop to a level that has me needing to disparage another human being to further my own goals. Most importantly, I encourage each of you to make your voice heard by voting on election day.
Along with this, I am going to make better use of all of your heartfelt contributions to my campaign. There is so much need out in the world today...diseases that we are still hopeful to find cures for...families that are struggling to put food on their tables after surviving nature's wrath....and so much more.
So, today I pledge to donate my campaign money to do some good for others. I highly encourage each of you to do all you can to help out those not as fortunate as you by your future actions. Together we can make this a better world for everyone. "
I know, I know.....I live in a fairy tale world...but, I can't help but wonder why no one has thought about handling their campaign in this way?
I don't know about you, but I am personally soooo tired of being bombarded with the mean-spirited (and annoying!) campaign commercials. One cannot get away from them as they are on tv, radio and the newspaper all day long.
Not to mention those signs that litter our beautiful city! The other day I saw one candidate's signs all along the highway median one right after another only a few feet away from each other. What an insult to my intelligence to have to see such ridiculous repetition!
With all of that being said, I am mostly repulsed by the outrageously exorbitant monetary expenditures!!! In The Birmingham News today the front page exhorts the following information: "Supreme Court candidates spend $10.6 million" Just think about all of the good that this much money could do! It is mind-boggling.
Whew, I actually feel better now.
Please don't forget to make your voice heard and vote next Tuesday.

This is very true. I'm getting sick of campaign commercials and all those phone calls with recorded messages. If a candidate would campaign the way you described, they would certainly get my vote.
I think everyone is sick of the negativity of this year's campaign. But if you were running, and your opponent started slinging the mud, you'd have to do it just to compete.
What we need is some neutral body who can discuss which side acted the slimiest; they can create something like a "slime-a-meter." Then, we need people to say that they pay attention to the slime-a-meter in deciding who to vote for. That probably won't happen (since most of us are too ideological to decide our vote primarily on the slime-a-meter), but it is something to think about.
If this can comfort you, we have exactly the same show going on here in all European countries ! When the election where here, my mailbox was full of election junk and from every corner a guy smiled on me ! And let's not talk about money ! with what they spend a whole African country could live for the next years. It's a shame. And on top, they all promise heaven on earth, but as soon as they are elected, nothing changes. Whatever party is involved. I think that's international !
This morning I have a lot of troubles with Blogger and not only me, Google help group is full of complaints. No way to publish anything.
I installed this morning the new version of IE 7 and it's great. Do you have it already ? Now my sidebars are not hanging down anymore and all blogs have a new look !
I think it'd be great if all the politicians were FORCED to keep to the subject and not sling one handful of mud at ALL!! No money spent for slinging and NO money spent for advertising to the voters.
Someone VERY wise, and very sarcastic once said, on a blog of very ill-repute, that any politician who WANTS to be in the office he's running for is automatically disqualified from running.
Okay, maybe the person who said this isn't that wise, but he certainly is sarcastic.
