As I expressed in my previous post, after his house was broken into, Dave started to do his own detective work. He began calling local coin shops to see if anyone had tried to sell his stolen coins. This was made easier by the fact that Dave had documented each coin that he had in his prized collection.
After several attempts he met with success!
A 20 year old kid had just sold "Dave's coins" in the local shop. The proprietor immediately stopped the check payment and was able to produce the name and address of the thief, This information was now handed over to the police for further investigation.
So, the bottom line is that Dave's coins will be returned to him and this young man will be slapped with a misdemeanor charge From what we have now learned, this kid has been in trouble with the law before.
This still doesn't return some of the other other valuable items that were taken, but there is some relief in knowing that the offender has been identified and charged.
Lesson learned for me....start documenting all of the valuables in my home!
I can hear my very organized, "list-keeping" Dave saying "I told you so...!" all the way over here!
OK, you are right this time honey....but, don't let it go to your head! : )

Tell Dave to get the kid's name and address so he can order the kid countless magazine subscriptions! It's time to fight fire with fire!!
Hip hip hooray!!
Hooray for Dave and his super sleuthing!!! Great job getting the information to the coin shops in the area. As for the kid and his warm fingers, sadly he's only going to learn to be a better thief in prison. Did Dave ever watch that "It Takes A Thief" show? A reality show where the guy would break into someone's house (with permission) to show the owners just what a thief could do in their house-then they'd fix all that was wrong with the security of the house and replace anything that got broken in the robbery - quite a program, I learned a lot. Our house was broken into one time - by the neighbor kid. He stole a couple portable CD players that were pawned right away, and a stack of CD's and some stuff out of the fridge (geez already), we got the CD's back, and he got a lecture from his Grandma about going to hell for stealing and losing the good friendship he had with us due to his drug problems. We have a lot of valuables, but we also have a good neighborhood, and thanks to Chris working nights, one of us is always home. Good luck to Dave getting his stuff back, maybe after he's done setting up credit cards for the kid and magazine subscriptions, he could get a big viscious slobbering dog to guard the house -- or maybe a recording of a big viscious slobbering dog that's set on a motion detector to scare away burglers!!!
Oh - and yes,you should list your valuables - start with OWEN!!!
Happy Birthday to Jen too!!
